The reverse design (sculptor John Mercanti) features a Heraldic Eagle with shield; an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left. The Bald Eagle represents the Executive Branch wings spread wide to represent freedom with a shield ready to defend the laws that guarantees our freedom. These coins have the inscriptions of the denominations, the weight of the metal content, the year of minting or issuance, the words "Liberty," "In God We Trust," "United States of America," and "E Pluribus Unum," and feature a reeded edge. The American Eagle Silver Uncirculated coins are available in a 1-ounce size. The mint process is similar to the minting procedures used on the magnificent American Eagle Proofs. Confused: how do the years add-up to a 10th anniversary in 1995 and a 20th anniversary in 2006 Answer: 1995 10th anniversary commemorates the 10th anniversary of American Eagle Coin Production. Silver Eagle American Liberty Series The goal of collecting any series is to acquire one of each date and mintmark issued for a particular coin design, usually including any major design changes. For example, NGC has introduced the American Liberty Series, a suite of four labels for the Silver, Gold, and Platinum Eagles. These Label designs showcase elements from the Obverse design of these coins on a gradient background. All dates, mint marks, proof and mint state issues of US bullion coins are eligible, but no pedigrees or early release designations are available in conjunction with the American Liberty Series labels. The grading standards and procedures are identical to regular NGC labels; only appearance differs. Silver Eagle Early Release/First Strike Most frequently promoted Early Release/First Strike coins are American Gold Eagle, American Silver Eagle, American Platinum Eagle, and now the new American Gold Buffalo. The US Mint ceremonially does first strikings of all new coins. Early Release and First Strike coins are recent developments in the Numismatic Industry. First Strike just entered the lexicon in 2005, most often referring to the first coins struck from a new set of dies. More general, Early Release/First Strike refer to near-perfect specimens produced within the first few hundred strikings in an edition. In 2006, the US Mint introduced a collectible, uncirculated version of the popular American Eagle Coins. This new option of precious metal coinage carries the same stunning designs found on their Proof counterparts. Uncirculated refers to the specialized minting process used to create these coins. Silver Eagle Sets Modern US coins are among the most popular types of collections. Sets and Combos are helpful when a collector specializes on a particular coin or commemorative. Numismatic professionals often work on more than one series, different types of sets, commemoratives, errors, die varieties, etc. (Sets also insure collect attributes, such as coin grades, e.g. all G-VG, VF or better, or Uncirculated.) Silver Eagle Proofs A Proof is a coin struck especially for collectors. Proofs struck prior to mid-twentieth century were often distinguished only by a high quality surface. Modern Proofs have mirrored fields and frosted devices, which adds Numismatic appeal. Proof should not be confused with a coins Grade. Remember, a Proof is a coin more often, a Proof is a coin of the highest grade and rarity. Proofs are purchased as an investment, more than for collection appeal. Silver Eagle Mint State Mint State is a certification that refers to a coins condition. A Mint State coin shows no signs of circulation, yet may have normal mint processing marks and defects.
