Commemorative Coin

The Value of US Medallions and Commemorative Coins
Each country has a rich history to share. That’s why the government invests on the preservation of various monuments or places that remind of a past which has contributed in the turnout of a country. Museums and galleries serve a legacy to be passed on to the next generation. In America, a US medallion matters to its citizens for it depicts the military’s valor and love for country. These medallions in the USA speak of the battles fought to protect the nation. Aside from each commemorative medallion, which symbolizes a change in the lives of Americans, the country also preserves military collectible coins any coin collector would love to keep in his coin display cases.
Collecting historic pieces brings back memories of the past and other things that have shaped the nation into what it is now. Aside from the pleasure it brings, the value of these collector’s items gets higher and higher as time goes by thus its importance to each and every collector.
Vintage stuff can make one reminisce a victory that changed his outlook in life, happy or sad events, or a fragment of his past that has yet to be found on order to be complete. These items can be valuable stones, medallions, bills and coins, or anything of importance.
I remember a friend who’s fond of collecting such items. She even spends a chunk of money to fulfill this caprice. She even traveled the world over to collect these items.
Once I asked her why she continues to collect these things in spite of their cost and I was flabbergasted by her humble answer.
“These items may not be so valuable at the moment but I still buy them and seize the opportunity whilst they are cheap. Someday, I will be rich because by then, these items should cost much more and I can resell them.”
That statement made a lot of sense and convinced me of the importance of collecting old coins. It’s true these items can be resold at a higher price in the future because its value only gets higher and higher as time goes by. Must be a great source of investment? I guess.
However, one can’t simply start collecting coins or medals the moment he decides to. There are factors to consider. First, you must have knowledge about the thing you intend to collect and its role in the past. Secondly, you must have the ability to trace the whereabouts of historic pieces. Don’t discount the fact that you should be financially equipped to be able to gather these things.
I am also a collector myself but not of historic pieces or symbolic figures. I am fond of collecting novelty items I see in gift shops or along the street. I would buy whatever pleases my eyes – bags, key chains, button pins, handkerchiefs, socks, bracelets, anklets, earrings, rings, etc.!
We are all collectors by nature. Perhaps, our only difference with a genuine collector is that the latter has a heart dedicated solely to the object of his interest so he manages to gather the finest of pieces.
